Several years ago, Mr. Raynor assisted me with a challenging divorce/custody case. I could scarcely recommend him more highly to anyone in a similar position.

Steve Raynor represented me for more than two years, through a series of very tangled and contentious domestic and custody-related disputes. I’ve never had a single reason to regret hiring him, and not only because he got optimal results for my child in every one of those episodes, including the one that finally resolved the whole thing. Steve is, across the board, absolutely first-rate: legally a step ahead of the other parties involved, exceptionally well-organized, easy and pleasant to deal with. Given his impressive legal intelligence and expertise and very extensive experience, Steve’s willingness and ability to give clear explanations of the legal/strategic/tactical issues involved was of great value to me. Because the legal issues often involved parenting considerations, Steve’s lively concern for the best interests of my child, and his psychological insight into the child’s perspective, were also extremely valuable to me. So was the premium he put on prompt communication: Steve did everything in a very timely way, which is big stress-reliever in these matters. In sum, I recommend him, without reservation, as a great lawyer and complete professional. I really can’t imagine anyone being any better.

The one star is for Shannon the very nice lady I spoke with the day before who took my information. She was truly nice and I'm glad Mr. Raynor's poor manners haven't rubbed off on her. Shame on you Raynor and Farmer.

Most importantly, while Mr. Raynor has a near-encyclopedic recall of Virginia family law, that knowledge is coupled with wisdom from years of practice. In my experience, his advice always proven sound - even when it clashed with my initial intuition about how certain aspects of my case should be handled. I trust his judgment completely, even to this day.

From the start, I was struck by his warm and welcoming demeanor. He carried himself with dignity and courtesy in his interactions with the court and the opposing party, and it was clear to me that he was well respected by the judges and other attorneys.

Mr. Raynor was the first lawyer I ever retained and I did not fully appreciate how much he stands out from the rest until I got involved with other lawyers (towards the end of my case the jurisdiction for the remaining divorce issues was moved to a different city due to job-related relocations of all involved parties) and heard some of the complaints my ex-spouse had about her own lawyers. One of Mr. Raynor's important distinctions is his communications policy. At all times I knew the status of my case, received drafts of all communications with the opposing legal counsel and the court until I had approved the final version, and was able to have my questions answered quickly. Mr. Raynor did not run up the fees by pushing for ill-advised or unnecessary litigation but if court hearings are unavoidable you most certainly want him to be the lawyer sitting next to you instead of at your ex-spouse's table.

Maybe I'm naive, but I didn't think another person could be so hateful to someone else. I know I shouldn't be upset, but to have a grown man behave so ugly to someone who is having problems and looking for good representation is inexcusable. All he had to do was be polite and have some manners. Instead, I was treated poorly. I wonder if he'd stand for someone talking to his mother, wife, or sister the way he spoke to me. I hope this rewiew is read and maybe others will think before calling this law firm.

Despite the complexity of the circumstances surrounding my divorce and the extremely hostile demeanor of the opposing counsel Mr. Raynor kept an even keel and accurately assessed the most promising responses in any given situation. At times, he nudged me forward when the case status warranted a more assertive stance and reeled me back in when I got ahead of myself. Mr. Raynor also excelled at predicting the most likely responses of the judge and meticulously prepared for all eventualities. In the end, we won all litigation and achieved a much better outcome than I had ever hoped for. Mr. Raynor's fees are certainly high for a small town like Charlottesville but not excessively so and, with your entire standard of living and the custody of your children at stake, you will not find anybody better in the region.

I wish I could give a negative star but I can't so I'll settle for 1 lousy star. I called the law firm of Raynor and Farmer and was more than willing to put up the money for them to help me with a contract dispute and to sue the other party for lawyer's fees and punitive damages. So imagine my surprise when Steve Raynor called me this morning and was BEYOND rude. He started the conversation in such a defensive manner I was shocked. He proceeded to tell me that I didn't know what I was talking about or what I wanted. When I tried to explain he interrupted me and told me to just answer "yes" or "no". I tried to speak again, to explain the problem, and why I needed a lawyer and he again berates me. I finally, hung up on HIM, in mid-sentence.

I don't wish a divorce upon anyone - but should you find yourself in that situation, there is no better attorney to walk with you through that process. I recommend him wholeheartedly.

The receptionist was very rude and hang up on me also when I called back STEVE RAYNOR couldn't give me a explanation why he couldn't represent me for someone who suppose to be highly educated seems not to be people savvy at all my money is good like everyone else, would not recommend this place

Mr. Raynor was always accessible - he frequently took my phone calls directly and always responded to e-mails and messages promptly (typically within hours).
