Fun place full of UVa students. Upstairs usually has live music or a DJ on the weekends with lots of people on the dance floor. Although, it can get really crowded and hot/sweaty on the weekend while upstairs. Downstairs is better for casual drinks with friends.
This place is hard to rate. Some times I visit and the food and service is spectacular. On the next trip the wait staff are more content to surf on their phones and gossip with each other to the point that I had to go get a person to help. The hamburgers and fries can be great, and the next trip they are cold and awful. You'll have to take a chance and see what mood the place is in. Too bad, it used to be one of the best in town when the former owners were in charge.
For a burger joint that mostly serves university crowd, it makes very good burgers. Burgers are made to order. The burgers/sandwiches have very good flavor and are very juicy. I would rate the burger 9/10 and close to gourmet quality. Unfortunately, the appetizers are underwhelming and can only fit the crappy bar food category... maybe worth a 2/10.
The Boylan BLT was the best I have had outside of my own kitchen!!! They only way it could been better would if they use maple bacon. The BLT is a must try, DEFINITELY. Also, our server Allie was fantastic! GO and have a BLT, a drink and have Allie serve you and you will have a memorable experience.
had a veggie burger (don't recall the proper name of it - all the dishes are college-themed) and hands down one of the best I've had. pretty decent beer selection for your local college bar. but needs to fix their lights - our section was dark because some of the bulbs blew out. overall, cool place!
