If I could leave zero stars I would. I have used this practice in the past when I lived in Cville but moved away for many years. I am appalled by the care I received from Dr. Mahanes and how she conducted herself when I expressed my issues. First, I took my cat in for a check up to see if anything was up. He was eating fine but he's an older cat. They told me because they found something wrong my appointment charge went up $10 to their speciality appointment. When asked about the difference in care procedure it turned out your animal actually gets more care for less when its healthy. Like trimming claws and cleaning the ears. None of that was done yet I was paying more money because they found an issue. I repeatedly asked Dr. Mahanes for her professional opinion on how I should proceed with my cat's care. She was very wishy washy and wouldn't give me a straight answer. I was really confused and kept asking her the same questions. She convinced me that these other tests were what I should do. Dr. Mahanes proceeded to walk me through several very expensive tests on my cat that were unnecessary. I was very frustrated when after they finished the tests and she was telling me the same results as before I spent a small fortune and with ZERO answers about how what I needed to do next. I was told I had to spend another large lump sum for yet another test. When I tried to explain my frustration with the situation she just kept cutting me off and I couldn't get a word in. She blamed me for the issues completely, tried to tell me that I was just mad because she couldn't magically cure my pet, and then resorted to telling me I was just too poor to pay the money to keep my cat healthy. It was absolutely shocking. When I addressed the fact that she kept cutting me off, and asked her to listen she told me I was unprofessional and hung up on me. I never raised my voice. Never spoke to her in any kind of disrespectful manor whatsoever. I run a business too and totally understand dealing with irate customers and some times you have to hang up. I know not to act like that. I am completely shocked and appalled that this woman acted the way she did towards me. Years ago I recommended this place to others, but I no longer recommend anyone go here. I think I look young, and my husband wasn't with me at the time, but it was very clear to me that this woman took advantage. The following day I was able to get in at another vet's office and sure enough, that vet confirmed that x-rays were unnecessary and apparently I'm not the only person who has suffered at Dr. Mahanes poor practices and extreme vet costs.
I have taken my cats to Dr. Mahanes for the last 15 years. She is kind, compassionate and has taken amazing care of all my girls. Eight years ago, I put my first girl down, and there was not a dry eye in the room. There is such compassion for all the kitties they take care of, even my crazy girl who takes four people just to get her nails clipped. And my othe sweetest girl who has had allergies to everything. The staff and doctors a CCC have gone above and beyond, and I recommend them to anyone with a cat.
They are not the cheapest game in town, but they are far from exorbitant and they take excellent care of our cats. There is an unmistakable sense of genuine caring from the staff. I wouldn't send anyone anywhere else.
We have so be delighted with our primary Doctor, Dr.Mahanes as well as our visits with Dr. Anderson. Both kind compassionate, exceptional people. I feel so fortunate and blessed to have them in our and our cats lives. We are now in geriatric care (17 year old cats) and it's not easy dealing with fidgety elderly cats. At no point are they treated unkindly, all questions answered, and you'll be pleased that they don't over prescribe or pressure you into costly procedures without exploring other options. They take a holistic approach to managing the care of your pet as well as the pets family. Sadly, this month proved the most difficult as our Momo developed lymphoma and inevitably needed to be put down. They respected our wishes, checked on Momo's condition every other day (Stacy!!!a jewel of a human being, none like her) and when the time came they couldn't have treated Momo or us, in our horrible sorrow, better. The staff makes you comfy, it's homey in the office without dogs worrying your kitty. We consider them all part of our family.
When I lost my elderly cat to diabetes, Cat Care's considerate staff did everything they could to make her comfortable and to ease her passing. A few weeks after the loss I received a beautiful hand-written note of condolences. Months later they are caring for my new adopted fur ball of adorable trouble. Having a background in Veterinary Technology myself I can attest to the skill of the staff and am thoroughly impressed by their compassionate handling.
