Dr McKenna really listened to my concerns and even made suggestions to ideas to help my senior dog have an easier life.
Lastly, they forgot to give us her medicine after we paid in full for all of care that she received. We were told to bring her back the following day for a post exam and rebandage. The earliest appointment was 4pm. This broke the spirits of my wife and I and we decided against returning to this place.
When I found myself in time of need for my sweet friend...the VETSS staff was compassionate and caring for my family and helped us through the complete process. Thank you to the staff for their love for my pet.
We had a traumatizing experience bringing my dog here around 6am a week ago. She required surgery and sutures for deep cuts to the metacarpal pad and carpal pad: $437.00 was their lowest estimate without the bloodwork.
The reasons I'm giving 2 stars is because it is a clean and kept hospital. Also, Dr. McKenna from the 2nd shift that we saw gave us more hope than what we felt from the beginning.
It is always stressful to take your pet to an Emergency Vet, but this experience was very positive. Everyone was professional and introduced themselves to me. They were clear about wait time and upfront about costs. Charlie the technician was thorough in his exam and listened carefully to my description of the situation. Dr. McKenna was extraordinary. He was thorough, explained what he was thinking the diagnosis could be and discussed how to proceed with the workup. Once the diagnosis was made he explained current treatment, expected time to see improvement, and how to recognize recurrence of the condition. Charlie explained the medications and side effects. Cost was very reasonable and there was no push for additional or unnecessary testing. A 5 star rating easily.
i recently visited VETSS --- everyone was very kind to me and my little dog. they were really fast and also looked at the easiest way to treat our condition.
these folks are wonderful -- i would absolutely recommend them to anyone in this area of VA.
This place is open 24 hours but we had trouble getting attention, as there wasn't anyone at the front desk.
I am very disappointed in the lack of professionalism when I called their office this evening. The man who answered the phone, according to him, is "the owners fiance.", so apparently that means that you are not permitted to ask questions. I simply asked a question and made a statement about a previous practice exercised by the office and instead of being professional about the fact that he did not agree with my statement , he simply hung up on me. I would add that I was completely polite and said nothing that was unkind or rude by any means. I was flabbergasted that an adult who is supposed to be a professional acted in such a childish way. I used this office for years but as the years went on, I began seeing the office moral deteriorate which is why I had already switched Vets for all of my animals. Animal Medical Center is AWESOME and way more reasonably priced. I was only calling VETSS tonight due to an emergency situation. Im very glad that Greenbriar Vet office offers emergency service as well because this is where I will be going from now on for after hour needs. I am huge on customer service and this simply does not meet my expectations. For the prices, I would expect to be treated with more respect.
In addition, they improperly bandaged our dog to control the bleeding which exposed tendons above her carpal pad. The nurse told us that is was okay if it wasn't bleeding, although our dog's tendons were visibly hanging out.
Furthermore, we were told that they would return our dog to us after weighing her. After waiting almost 2 hours for her return, they advised us that her surgery (that we were unaware of) was compete but had trouble waking her up. They gave our dog a sedative about the dosage that they would give to a Great Dane and a "baby dose" of the reversal. I had to carry our 57lb dog out of the hospital around 10am. I stayed by her side all day and she didn't recover until almost 4pm.
