So for any one keeping tally:
Classic hip bistro on the pedestrian mall with delicious food (the fried chicken is amazing, and we also favor the street corn, the Brussels sprouts, and the meatloaf!) and we dig the snazzy atmosphere. We enjoy the spacious bar and the high top community tables when out on a date; they also have booths and space for large groups. The Sunday Brunch and outdoor areas are an added bonus. The staff is friendly and professional and their house made tonic is a must order if you like vodka/tonic or gin/tonic. If you are looking for a place to enjoy a birthday for 8, this is your spot. (they take resies for large groups)
Have been here three times thus far. All three times were for lunch during the week and ask three times I ordered the fried chicken sandwich.
The first and third time the fried chicken was average at best. Nothing to get excited about but at the same time nothing so bad I wouldn't order it again.
This place has amazing food, very attentive and welcoming service staff. Always ony list to visit when visiting Charlottesville.
The second time though... simply wow! The fried chicken was perfect. It was juicy. The breading was perfectly crisp. It was absolutely amazing. It's literally why my review has 4 stars instead of 3.
Unfortunately, our planned trip to Charlottesville was this past weekend (alt-right rally) and most of the mall was closed. However, The Fitzroy saved the day as they decided not to close!!! They were short-staffed, but the service and food was still excellent. Thank you, Fitzroy!
Edit: keeping with my ongoing review The Fitzroy comes through again with their consistent inconsistency! Went on 10/10/17 for lunch (my fourth visit) annnnnnnd the fried chicken sandwich was... freaking amazing!
Lastly, the food is some of the best I've had while in Charlottesville. My hanger steak was cooked perfectly and my wife's chicken dish was delicious and the Street Corn Off the Cobb side dish is the best we've ever had!
Visits 1 & 3 = meh (3 stars)
I'm disappointed in the inconsistency but I would definitely suggest eating here to anyone who asked.
My wife and I enjoyed a Honeymoon dinner for two at The Fitzroy this past weekend thanks to the kindness and hospitality of Rich Ridge! Even though it was graduation weekend, Rich reserved a table for two for us on our special weekend and made us feel so welcome at his beautiful space. The hospitality was second to none for us and such a wonderful experience that made a lasting impression on us.
Visits 2 & 4 = omg soooo good! (5 stars)
