We rented out the entire Inn at Monticello for a family vacation. It was perfect to have our own private venue to celebrate my dad's 60th birthday - or that was the plan. The main house and decor are absolutely beautiful. However, the rooms were incredibly hot. I understand that the house is very old and we were here during one of the hotter times of the year so this is understandable, but still uncomfortable. Breakfast in the morning was acceptable, but again not great. They have their own coffee blend with A LOT of orange zest added and this is the only thing offered other than a small bowl of tea. You have one option for breakfast in the morning and half of my picky family ate the food served and the other half jockeyed it around their plates as they tried to sip orange coffee. The Inn did provide a plate of cookies in the afternoon, but there was no glass of wine per person or complementary beer. The final proverbial straw prompting me to write this review came when we discovered bees under the steps leading into the Cottage. My parents were staying there as this was clearly the nicest room in the place (wonderful AC and inner decor, fantastic furniture, and bathroom) and my dad was the man of honor. However, my dad is also HIGHLY allergic to bees. When we addressed this problem with Carolyn and Bob, it turns out that this was a persistent problem they had had before and Bob lackadaisically walked over with his previously used spray-can and told us not to step on the stairs too loudly.
The property was clean and service was friendly. It was neat to stay in a place that is connect with local history.
Restful. Peaceful. Beautiful.
We received a gift card to stay here from a family member. We loved it. The owners make you feel at home. There's a home cooked breakfast at 8:30am where you can mingle with other guests, and at night there's always a different kind of cookie sitting on a plate in front of the door. The bedrooms are beautiful and quaint, and the bathrooms are modern. We had a great time at Pippin Hill Winery, Monticello, and exploring the Downtown Mall. Highly recommended. If you're using Uber, their location software is not great so I'd recommend dropping a pin at the driveway and Scottsville Road as it seems to want to take the drivers to the backyard via a different road.
We go to a Bed and Breakfast every year as a family of twelve people because we appreciate the charm, intimacy, and hard work it takes to run such a place. It was missing that the Inn at Monticello.
One family member stayed in a hotel because dogs are not allowed on premises. She said she had a beautiful, dog friendly room at the nearby chain hotel, with buffet breakfast in the morning and a pool at 1/3 of the price we were paying.
The cottage was very nice
